Adelante Familia is a bilingual program of St. Vincent de Paul that provides culturally competent and linguistically specific domestic violence prevention and crisis intervention services to Latino immigrant families. This includes victim support services such as crisis counseling, resource referral, legal advocacy and accompaniment, general support services, women support groups, educational workshops, and SafeNights, and a 40-week abuser intervention program. In addition, Adelante Familia also offers emergency and supplemental food assistance, and life skills and health education.

Description:
Adelante Familia offers comprehensive, community-based and women-centered advocacy services, which recognize the "family" as a central value. Abuser intervention services are also a critical and integral component of violence prevention for the victims. Through its services and outreach, Adelante Familia is dedicated to eradicating domestic abuse in Baltimore’s Latino communities by making a long-term commitment to address the roots of victimization and violence. The goals of Adelante Familia are to eliminate the incidence of violence, reduce tolerance to violence, promote healthy families, and prevent another generation of victims and abusers.

Adelante Familia is a program of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore whose mission is to help people who are suffering from the effects of poverty meet their basic human needs and achieve a better future for themselves and their family.

History:
Adelante Familia (formerly known as St. Michael Outreach Center) was founded in August 2000 and created out of the need for basic services for the burgeoning Spanish-speaking immigrant community in Baltimore City. Over the last 4 years, Adelante Familia has made domestic violence prevention and intervention a service priority, and has focused all new resources and program growth on expanding its domestic violence prevention, intervention and education services to serve the Latino communities of Baltimore and its surrounding communities. Currently volunteers serve in a variety of roles supporting the food pantry, clothing distribution, and providing basic direct client support services to Latino women and families served through Adelante Familia.
