Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit, ecumenical christian housing ministry, works in partnership with people in need to improve the conditions in which they live, Habitat challenges people of compassion to provide the initial capital-through gifts and no-interest loans- or renovate simple, decent homes with the inadequately sheltered. Houses are sold at no profit, with no-interest mortgages repaid over a 20 to 30 year period. The house payments are recycled to build more houses through a local Fund for Humanity.
Description:
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that is largely ran by the help of volunteers. We need people to help out with all aspects of our organization. Everybody is welcome to volunteer! We would like people that can work on a house construction site, join a committee, work in the office writing thank you cards/ answering the phones, or donate/make a meal for a working crew on the job site. We have opportunities for everyone!
History:
The Talbot Housing Steering Committee was founded in February 1992 to investigate the deplorable status of low-income housing in affluent Talbot County, Maryland and to investigate alternatives to expensive, inefficient, and socially inequitable public housing programs.Habitat for Humanity of Talbot County, Inc. (HFHTC) was formed June 12, 1992 as a Maryland Corporation. Recently in 2005 has adopted Dorchester County as a branch and are now working together to provide more help for families.
