Great Community Support for Great Kids, Great Schools

Powered by Truist
Last updated on May 1, 2008

There has been a great outpouring of support from the community over the past week, with many people asking “how can I help?”. We are setting a very tangible goal of recruiting 500 volunteers to help our schools in the next 2 weeks and building on their willingness to get involved as a key part of creating a system of great schools. This is an opportunity for people who care about our schools to take a real action that fits their schedules and interests and builds lasting relationships between schools and volunteers that start now and can extend into next year.

Volunteers can sign up to help including: provide positive presence around school at arrival and dismissal; help with after school clubs or sports teams; tutor students or be a mentor; help in school working with principal and teachers; help beautify and clean around our schools; meet with principal, teachers, staff and student leaders to help shape volunteer strategy to support school and students

The Office of Parent and Community Engagement will match volunteers with schools. Volunteers can also identify a particular school they’d like to work with. Volunteers who are working with students outside the presence of a City Schools employee will need to get a background and health check. (City Schools will cover cost for volunteers.)

Volunteers will be contacted for meeting and training at school beginning the week of 4/28.

Thank you for supporting our Great Kids and Great Schools.
