Make a new friend by mentoring a child in the child's school! It's simple. All you need to do is be a friend to a child for 1-2 hours per week. That 1-2 hours could be all at once or just have lunch at the school a couple times each week. All meeting will be done in the child's school and can be done as your schedule and the schedule of the child allows. Don't get the wrong idea...you would not be a tutor. You simply need to be a listening, supportive friend to a child who needs someone in his or her life who will listen and care. This type of match relationship is designed as a one year commitment with 9 months of that commitment being in person. Throughout the summer months contact with your Little Brother or Sister can be done over the phone, through email, or by writing letters. This relationship can later be extended into the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters community based relationship if you wish. Key Words: Children, Child, Kids, Caring.
The School-Based mentor can be an adult from the community or a tenth, eleventh or twelve grade High School student who has been referred to Big Brothers Big Sisters by school staff or faculty. This opportunity is sponsored by: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota

Overall Experience
By giving a little time you can make a difference in a childs life, It is a wonderful experience and feeling

The agency is wonderful the staff is friendly and very helpful. There are lots of activities you and your little can attend or just do your own thing. I found that you canmake a difference with just a little time. Children are sponges and they look up to you. It gives me a chance to do things that I haven't done in a long time and takes me away from all the stress in my life. It is great and no matter how busy you think you are you do find time to make the difference. This organization is great that is why I am on my second match and going on 13 years with them. posted by jlichy on August 18, 2004 |
