  6. Description:
Savory Sunday is a non-profit, non-denominational organization that has been serving the hungry in Madison every Sunday since October 2005. Our intent is to serve up the most satisfying free feast in town.

Each Savory Sunday begins at 11 AM with cooking at the Lutheran Campus Center - 325 N. Mills. Creativity and collaboration take over with each Sunday bringing together a new collection of food and faces. Every meal is unique as individuals are free to add their own creative flair.

Savory Sunday continues at 2 PM at James Madison Park. There, volunteers serve up the prepared dishes to the hungry. We grill, we bring music, we have a great time. A community atmosphere is facilitated by volunteers and food recipients alike. The ultimate intent of Savory Sunday is to not only feed the hungry, but to build relationships amongst everyone involved.

Volunteers are free to come to any part of Savory Sunday; and stay as long as they are willing or able. Come join us this weekend and become part of our ever-evolving and expanding organization. We welcome anyone with some spare time and an open heart.

    History:
Originally formed by a small group of young people, Savory Sunday has been serving the homeless each Sunday since October 2005. Throughout cold afternoons and initial low volunteer rates, Savory Sunday now averages 100 servings of food per Sunday with a volunteer base of well over 200 people. ‘Savory’ has dished up quesadillas, chicken parmesan, pizza, lobster chowder, shrimp jambalaya, and hot, home-made banana bread – all collected from reputable area restaurants and food pantries.

On January 29, 2006, the group began their partnership with Community Coalition Action (CAC). In addition to food, many friendships have been formed between the servers and those served. Savory Sunday welcomes all people who have an open heart; and openly give their time and energy.
