Our goal is to create cross-cultural communication and interactions between U.S. students and International students on campus. In addition, we want to increase the support for international students on campus, by offering them a U.S. partner to serve as a cultural navigator.
Description:
BRIDGE is an international friendship program that is meant to help ease the transition of International students to life at UW-Madison, while creating a friendship in the process. It also serves as an intercultural exchange program because it allows for U.S. students to learn about new cultures and global perspectives. We have about 100 participants each semester (50 U.S. and 50 International). If selected, participants are expected to meet with their partner a minimum of 7 times during the semester, and ultimately serve as a supporter and friend to their partner.
History:
BRIDGE was established in 2002, as a way to strengthen connections between U.S. students and international students on the UW-Madison campus. It initially started with about 50 students total each semester, and has since been able to double in size to 100 students each semester. We pair students based on personal interests, hobbies, or languages and countries of which they may have a desire to learn more about.
