The Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund is committed to providing an independent statewide community based safety net for households with unmet energy needs. Special emphasis is placed on reaching out to those who are most vulnerable such as the isolated elderly, disabled or families with young children. The Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund is also committed to efforts that result in the long-term self-sufficiency of those most in need.
Description:
The Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund was established to keep the heat and power on for thousands of families in crisis. Through public, private and community partnerships, KWWF provides preventative services and the financial assistance necessary to alleviate potential life-threatening energy-related emergencies during Wisconsin's harsh winters. 95% of those helped by the Fund are elderly, disabled or families with young children. The KWWF is committed to providing immediate relief from energy crises as well as long-term solutions, and ultimately self-sufficency. Those in need can be helped with:
- Home weatherization
- Replacement or repair of old, inefficient and
dangerous furnaces
- Budget counseling, money management
- Connection to other resources to help themselves
The KWWF is dedicated to equipping people with the tools they need to stay warm this winter...and beyond.
History:
The Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund was established in 1996 by former Governor Tommy Thompson as a response to the tremendous need of Wisconsin’s elderly, disabled and families with young children. It began as a pilot initiative for households with critical energy needs throughout Southern Wisconsin and in 1998 became a statewide effort. The Fund has continued under Governor Thompson's successor, Governor James Doyle, KWWF Honorary Fund Chairman. Currently we assist families in need of immediate energy assistance in every community in the state. As available funding continues to decline, and basic survival needs skyrocket, KWWF is able to provide a critical safety net for Wisconsinites facing life-threatening emergencies during our harsh winters. KWWF has become a national model for a successful statewide charitable energy fund. Support is mobilized from corporations, individuals and community groups statewide. All funds raised are currently matched dollar for dollar by the state of Wisconsin. It is a truly unique public/private partnership. Funds are raised in Wisconsin and stay in Wisconsin communities!
