The purpose of Capital Sound Drum & Bugle Corps, Inc. is to promote youth development through musical performance education. The principle vehicle for carrying out the program is the involvement of the members in a competitive drum and bugle corps music and marching program.
Description:
Capital Sound is a competitive drum & bugle corps. We teach the members musical performance skills during our winter/spring camp schedule leading up to our competitive season beginning in mid-June and running through early August. During our competitive season we travel to various competitions throughout the Midwest, mostly on weekends, and take an extended tour at the end of the season to the national championships.
History:
Capital Sound was formed in 1995 by the merger of the all-girl CapitolAires Drum & Bugle Corps and the Madison Jr. Scouts, an all-male corps, under the auspices of the Madison Drum & Bugle Corps Association. In December of 2003 the Madison association decided that for financial reasons they would put Capital Sound in hiatus for a year. Several supporters of Capital Sound felt that that was a decision that would doom the corps, so they took over the corps and formed their own 501 (c) (3) corporation to operate Capital Sound. Since then we have continued to provide our members with a program that encourages personal development and team skills through musical education and competition.
