We provide integrated and comprehensive educational services to parents of limited schooling and income and their young children. Volunteers are essential to provide optimal opportunities for language development with children 4 months to 5 years through play.
Description:
Madison Family Literacy in collaboration with local schools, Head Start, Northport Community Learning Centers,and others serves about 75 low literacy families each year with adult instruction, parenting instruction, in-home and small group parenting support and early childhood classes for infants and preschool children, plus school age tutoring.Volunteers interact directly with participant children or adults to promote language.
History:
Since 1999 Madison Even Start Family Literacy has received federal funds in 4 year cycles, this is our 8th year and we have expanded from the near east side of Madison to serve families from north, east, south and west neighborhoods.
