Wheels for Winners is a 501(c)(3) all volunteer organization based on the earn-a-bike concept. More than 150 mostly low income and minority kids in Madison participate in program services yearly.
Description:
Program participants donate 15 hours of service to their communities or read 5 books for pleasure for a class room teacher enabling them to earn a refurbished bike, biking equipment, and bike repair training. Wheels for Winners has its own shop which is open several days and nights a week. Volunteer mechanics repair bikes and provide educational programs for kids in the community. We are a grass roots effort that promotes environmental awareness and bicycling for fun and for commuting purposes.
History:
Wheels for Winners has been fully operational since 1992.More than 35 people volunteer on a regular basis. The organization works closely with local area schools and community centers.
