The McFarland Youth Center is a community-based organization committed to middle level youth, families, and the community by providing a safe recreational and educational environment. With adult-supervised, youth oriented, planned programming, the McFarland Youth Center promotes positive relationships through building developmental assets.
Description:
The McFarland Youth Center is an after school program geared towards students at the Indian Mound Middle School. We are open from 3-6, Monday through Friday during the school year, and 1-5 during the summer. We have on-going programs that occur weekly or twice a month. These programs include Girls in Action, Man Law (boys group), Fresh Food Friday (cooking and interaction), and Art with Molly (arts and crafts). We also have many fun recreational activities, a very exciting and passionate staff, and big events during the summer including trips to Noah's Ark and Great America.
History:
The Youth Center was founded by a group of high school students in 1998 who thought that middle school kids needed somewhere safe to go after school. Eventually, an advisory board was formed consisting of community members, parents, and district employees. We are in the process of applying for non-profit status.
