The Road Home serves homeless families with children in collaboration with local faith communities and organizations. We are committed to the empowerment and long term success of children and families , to serving each family with dignity and respect and to achieving results in helping families improve their lives.
Description:
We serve on average four families at any one time. During the day the families are at a day center which is open 7AM-5PM seven days a week. At 5PM the families go to a host congregation. The host congregations provide three meals and overnight accommodations for one week. The host congregations provide volunteers from their own congregation. Each Sunday the Families move to the next host congregation. We have a series of 15 hosts. The families are provided with Case Management services while they are in shelter and for up to a year after they move into their apartment.
History:
IHN opened its doors in Madison in April 1999 in response to the growing needs of families in Dane county. Although starting out as an emergency shelter IHN has continued to develop programs to meet the needs of low-income families. Due to the growth we changed our name to The Road Home July 1 2008. The Road Home strives to work with the community to solve the problem of homelessness.
