Description:
In Pursuit of our mission, the Board promotes improvements of conditions in long-term care. The Board serves the individual; monitors the development, implementation and outcome of long-term care policy; makes recommendations, stimulates public interest and provides education regarding universal issues affecting long-term care. The Board will recommend to the Governor and to the Legislature improvements to the long-term care system.
The Board on Aging houses 3 programs...the Ombudsman Program, the Volunteer Ombudsman Program and the Medigap Helpline.
The Volunteer Ombudsman Program offers training, guidance and support in doing a meaningful volunteer experience where Volunteers really do make a difference!

History:
In 1972 the Federal Administration on Aging received complaints about the care provided to older persons living in nursing homes. After several demonstration projects, the Wisconsin Ombudsman Program model was chosen most effective. In 1994 the Volunteer Ombudsman Program was designed to supplement the Ombudsman Program.
