To provide programs and services that support, motivate and challenge academically talented students in the state of Wisconsin. WCATY's philosophy emphasizes that rigor in the curriculum, high expectations for student achievement and a student's personal passion for learning must work in concert if talented students are to excel academically.
Description:
Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth (WCATY) is a non-profit, membership-based organization working to ensure that the talents of Wisconsin's brightest youth are not squandered. WCATY is the only statewide organization, public or private, focused on direct programs and services for gifted young people. WCATY works with college and university campuses throughout the state to offer summer residential and mentorship programs, and other rigorous academic opportunities to nurture Wisconsin's talented youth. WCATY's goals is to offer programs based on the philosophy of optimal match between pace, level of instructions, and student capabilities.
History:
In 1991, The Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth, Inc. (WCATY) was created in response to a landmark report that stated, "By the time of university study...maximum numbers of youth who could enhance the state's social, economic, and cultural development by becoming Wisconsin's most talented citizen's...are unprepared."
