DCHS Mission Statement Helping people help animals.
Description:
The Dane County Humane Society is a private, non-profit organization. We offer programs such as animal adoption, humane education, wildlife rehabilitation, and stray pick ups.
History:
History The Dane County Humane Society was founded in 1921 by Mrs. Milo Kittleson, wife of the Mayor of Madison. Animals were housed at Dr. Paul Candlin's veterinary hospital until 1965, when the old shelter was built at the Pennsylvania Avenue site. This facility was expanded in 1985. A new shelter was built in 2000. Come out and visit us in our new space! The new shelter allows us to provide much happier and healthier housing for our animals as they wait for permanent homes. We're looking forward to seeing you at the new shelter!
