The mission of the Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation is to create, support and protect a thousand-mile foot trail tracing Ice Age formations across Wisconsin. The mission of the Dane County Chapter is to create, build and maintain the Trail in Dane County, promote the Trail, and encourage cooperation with individuals and organizations in furthering this mission.

Description:
In Dane County, about 20 out of 55 - 60 miles of the Ice Age Trail are complete. We have a number of Trail segments that are open for hiking. From the north: Lodi Marsh State Wildlife Area, Indian Lake County Park, Table Bluff, Cross Plains, Valley View, Verona, and the Brooklyn State Wildlife Area.

As a volunteer organization, we welcome involvement with the Trail, whether it be to hike the Trail on your own, participate in any of the many events we offer, or volunteer to help with the Trail.

History:
The Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation was established in 1958 based on the vision of Ray Zillmer, and is a tax-exempt, charitable membership organization. It has volunteers organized into 22 local chapters along the Ice Age Trail and membership in 40 states.

The National Park Service Ice Age National Scenic Trail is one of 8 national scenic trails. With the support of the Foundation and politicians such as former Congressman Henry Reuss, it was designated as a National Scenic Trail in 1980. It basically follows the terminus of the glaciers from the last ice age through Wisconsin.
