Neighborhood House provides a safe place for young people to engage in social, recreational and educational opportunities. We provide support and a safe place where parents, families, and senior citizens can come together to improve their lives, families and community.
Description:
Neighborhood House Community Center, Inc. provides social, educational and recreational programs to improve the quality of our community. Adult and youth programs provide residents with resources to learn and grow. An emergency food pantry is available for community members in need of assistance. The facility is also available as a meeting space for neighborhood and special interest groups. We have a new garden space to enhance our property and to give youth an opportunity to experience the joy of planting and reaping. We are always in need of volunteers to help with our after-school program, our summer day camp for youth ages 7-13, food pantry, cleaning, painting, and general maintenance. We invite people to visit our center and explore how you might find a niche here. We are open to new programs, new ideas, and fresh beginnings. Come explore with us the best of what community can be!
History:
Neighborhood House was established in 1916 and is the oldest community center in Madison. The mission of Neighborhood House has always been to provide residents with resources and a place for meeting with friends! Recently the Neighborhood House has incorporated youth social justice, nature studies and academic enrichment programs. We are expanding adult programming and would welcome suggestions.

I am a student at UW-Platteville who volunteered at the Neighborhood House last summer. I gained the knowledge of how children interact and what they are concerned with at different ages in their development. I also gained the friendship of a group of people who have similar goals and got to know some really cool kids. posted by Tassia on February 3, 2005 |
