EMCC targets low income/under-served communities for its services however all citizens are welcome to participate.

EMCC has a very strong volunteer corp. Volunteers are considered the "heart and backbone" of EMCC and are encouraged to develop skills and abilities through their work at EMCC.

EMCC is proud to provide a diversified range of programs and services including:

Learning Center; Reading and Homework help; Pre-teen and Teen Development Nights; Positive Options Program (AODA program for children and youth); Saturday Drop In; Saturday Night Prevention for Teens; Boys Development/Girls Development Groups; Alternatives to Violence for Children; Computer Lab; Summer Day Camp; Women's Support Group; Parenting Programs; GED/ESL Classes; Community Garden; Senior Programs; Food Pantry and Clothing/Household Items Distributions; Neighborhood Revitalization Efforts; Facility Use Programs; Self-Defense Classes; Family Enrichment Activities; and much, much more.

History:
EMCC was formed in 1966, born out of a community need to help expand activities and empowerment opportunities for area youth and adults. The Center began in humble quarters within a small apartment, initially providing youth with structured activities and adults with a neighborhood-based meeting facility. Word of the Center soon spread throughout the community.

Today, after providing community services for almost four decades, EMCC has evolved into a thriving multi-service center at 8 Straubel Court. The Center provides social, educational, recreational and cultural programming for the east side community with a small paid staff and over 200 volunteers.

The future grows brighter as EMCC continues to grow in response to what is important to families on Madison's east side. By providing support and technical assistance, EMCC plays a crucial role in helping residents connect with resources necessary to help enhance the quality of life for individuals as well as the community in general. EMCC's Educational Enrichment Center building expansion in 1977 added vital new space and services for children and adults, including the Preschool Enrichment Program, computer lab, family resource services and other program opportunities.
