Afrocentric is a community organization that works to promote cultural awareness by providing community outreach and supportive services. The organization coordinates discussions in schools, provides supportive services for families with relatives in prison and collaborates with other local non-profits on education, health and cultural issues. Many of the activities Afrocentric takes part in revolves around educating youth as well as adults on health, workers' rights and cultural issues. Some programs Afrocentric has worked on include: African folklore storytelling, African dancing and music education, health education to at-risk groups and assist individuals in locating employment after released from prison.
History:
Afrocentric has been a registered 501 3 (c) organization since 1996. The organization began focusing on cultural awareness and has collaborated with other non-profits over the years to provide other services.
