The mission of the Transition Education Program (TEP), is to provide homeless children and youth equitable access to educational opportunities afforded "housed" children.

Description:
TEP is a partnership between Madison Metropolitan School District, Madison School Community Recreation, Salvation Army, Dane County, YWCA, Domestic Abuse Intervention Service and other community organizations. The program serves K-12th graders and is a district wide program. The elementary level is housed at three sites (Emerson is the K- 5 site). Services include direct instruction, advocacy, supplies, community education about homelessness and mobility, academic screening, and small group assistance.

History:
The TEP was initiated in March 1989 at Emerson Elementary. The number of homeless students has continued to increase. Homeless children continue to be served through out the district Kindergarten through high school on a daily basis.
