The Wisconsin Women's Network is a statewide, non-profit, non-partisan coalition of organizations and individuals advancing the status of women and girls in Wisconsin through education, communication and advocacy.
Description:
The Wisconsin Women's Network assists organizations and individuals in coordinating activities that educate the public, influence decision makers, and formulate public policy initiatives which change those systems to improve the status of Wisconsin women. Member organizations and individuals communicate and are informed through bi-weekly E-bulletins, regular newsletters, and the Network website. Task Forces focus on public policy issues such as reproductive rights, women military veterans, and women and aging. Well-attended annual public events highlight the accomplishments of the Network and Wisconsin women. Special publications are undertaken with the assistance of public and private financing.
History:
The Network was established in 1979 and gains its mission from the National Plan of Action for women's rights written by participants at the historic conference in Houston in 1977. Since then, the Network's members have been a force of organizing around issues from marital property rights to reproductive rights.
