To enable a network of non-profit social service agencies to provide housing for all homeless persons in Dane County and to promote efforts with community providers to reduce the homeless population in Dane County. To provide quality affordable housing to a diverse community of adult individuals and to provide social and educational services to enhance their ability to maintain a stable and sound living environment.
Description:
Porchlight, Inc., a merger of Transitional Housing, Inc. (THI) and Community Housing and Services, Inc. (CHAS), provides emergency shelter, low-cost transitional and permanent housing, and related services to the homeless and low-income population of Dane County. Programs include the Men's Drop-In Shelter and Hospitality House at Grace Episcopal church, Safe Haven for homeless men and women with mental illness, and the permanent and transitional housing program, which provides 226 units of housing at scattered sites located throughout Madison and Dane County.
History:
Porchlight, Inc. was created from the merger of Transitional Housing, Inc. (THI) and Community Housing and Services, Inc. (CHAS). Both THI and CHAS have been providing housing and services in Dane County for many years.
