MARC responds to individual choices in designing person centered plans for day and employment services for adults with developmental disabilities.
MARC is led by a parent or family member Board of Directors always vigilant to individual needs. MARC makes every attempt to meet reasonable, safe and affordable individual choices. Services change over time as client choices evolve. Especially we are developing services for aging adults with developmental disabilities.
Description:
MARC provides day and employment services to over 300 adults with developmental disabilities throughout Dane County. MARC operates out of five locations, and accesses over 100 supported employment sites throughout Dane County.
MARC employs about 100 staff. Direct care staff are represented by AFSCME Local 412. MARC is proud of its collectively bargained wages and fringe benefits, safety standards and resultant staff morale and tenure.
The majority of MARC funding is from public sources. MARC is dependent upon donations to fund goods and services not available with public funding. We often term these "service enhancements" because they represent opportunities not available with public funding such as music therapy, a favorite activity.
History:
MARC was founded in 1952 by pioneering parents who raised their children with developmental disabilities at home rather than send them to distant institutions.
Today many of those original children have achieved up to fifty years of service and are helping MARC create retirement services for aging persons with developmental disabilities.
MARC is proud of its many achievements, and concerned that recent and future budget cuts threaten client well being and staff morale and fringe benefits. Advocacy is challenged to represent the needs of adults with developmental disabilities among all the competing interests pursuing limited public funding.
