The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is committed to
"helping our neighbors in need," without regard to
religion, race, or ethnic background.

Description:
We donate items out of our stores directly to low-income people. Last year we gave away over $137,000 of clothes, bedding, and household items.

We operate the largest food pantry in Dane County. Last year we helped over 29,000 people with almost $350,000 worth of food. A share of the food provided through our food pantry is purchased with money raised from our Thrift Store sales.

We are the only place in Dane County to donate furniture to help the homeless after they find housing. Over $157,000 of furniture was donated last year.

Money raised from our store sales allow us to help people with other needs such as transportation, emergency shelter, and prescriptions. Last year we donated $33,994 of prescription assistance and another $24,930 for rent and utility assistance.

At any one time over 50 men, women and children reside in housing operated in Madison by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We operate Port St. Vincent de Paul (a home for men) and St Elizabeth Ann Seton House (transitional housing for women and children).

We run Thrift Stores where people can buy clothes, furniture, and household items at low prices.

History:
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP -- a society of charity -- is an international Catholic lay organization dedicated to serving the needy and suffering. Founded in Paris, France in 1833 by Blessed Frederic Ozanam and his companions, the Society was placed under the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul, a seventeenth century servant of the poor. SVdP has been established in the United States since 1845 and our organization has served the Madison community and its environs since 1925.
