The mission of West High School's In-School Study Table Program is to improve study skills and academic achievement for all of our students by providing tutorial support and mentoring. We work closely with our CRIS program, an alternative program at West that helps students who are deficient in credits recover those credits and increase their study skills.

Description:
The In-School Study Table is a tutorial program open to West High School students in need of academic help, particularly targeting students of color. Students who need help contact the coordinator, who matches them with UW-Madison students and other adult volunteers who feel competent in that particular subject. The tutor/student meet twice a week, during the student's study hall, lunch, or before or after school. We expect that the tutor/student will meet throughout the semester. We need tutors in all subjects. The CRIS program also needs tutors in all subjects, but particularly need tutors who can help with algebra and geometry. Spanish bilingual tutors are also needed.

History:
The In-School Study Table has been in existence in its present form since 1996. The ISST program, the CRIS program, and the Peer Tutorial program work together in assisting students in need of academic support. Tutors from the university have said that this experience helped them "step outside" their own lives and positively influence the life of a younger person.
