Mission Statement:

The Campus Women's Center was founded in 1983 to confront the multiple oppressions woman-identified individuals face. We work toward this goal by providing a variety of support services, educating the campus community on a number of women-centered issues, and serving as a resource and referral center for all students. We affirm and celebrate women's power to create social change by challenging and transforming institutions and relationships which oppress women.

The CWC is a Safe Space

"Serving every student who walks through its doors, the CWC is committed to valuing each person, irrespective of sex, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, ideas, ability, class, age, health, legal status, education, family structure, or any other aspect of their identity. The CWC does NOT tolerate and will actively confront any attitudes or behaviors that compromise the safety of this space."

Our Core Values

  1. We believe in a non-hierarchical consensus-based, feminist collective. We vow to maintain a safe space where we value all people irrespective of sex, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, ideas, abilities, class, age, health, legal status, education, family structure, or any other aspect of their identity.

  2. We believe that labels can be used to divide and alienate people. We stand in solidarity with all oppressed peoples. All struggles for freedom are related and intertwined. There are no hierarchies of oppression.

  3. We hold the word “woman” as a non-exclusive term encompassing a wide array of identities and expressions.

  4. We strive to expand the meaning of feminism so as to be a movement with which all women can identify. We embrace the diversity of feminism from around the world.

  5. The CWC fully supports a woman’s autonomy over her body. Women have the right to determine if and when they choose to become mothers. We demand accessible birth control, emergency contraception, family planning, health care, and comprehensive sexual education for all. All abortions should be safe, legal, and accessible to all women. Parents should be provided with sufficient resources to raise a child. Adoption programs must be accessible and non-discriminatory.

  6. We seek to end all violence against women-sexual, verbal, emotional, and physical. We expect that men acknowledge their role and actively work toward ending a culture that normalizes violence.

  7. We are committed to ending racism and empowering women of color in the struggle for liberation.

  8. We respect our Mother Earth and oppose the environmental racism and classism that endangers a woman’s health.

  9. We fight for economic independence and equity in the workplace. We support full access to higher education and affirmative action to smash the glass ceiling and promote women in positions of leadership. We advocate policy that supports working mothers.

  10. We are committed to ending heterosexism and advocating equal rights and full participation for the queer community.

  11. We work toward ending the patriarchal culture that represses female sexuality and objectifies women. We assert a woman’s agency in expressing her sexuality. We reject any standard of beauty that compromises a woman’s health and promote positive representations of women in the media.

  12. We fight for a university that listens to the demands of all women. We believe in the power of women to create social change.
