Work activities depend on the season. During the fall and winter, we cut brush using hand-held saws, loppers and pruners. Some people use chain saws. We create brush piles and burn them once there is snow on the ground and the piles are large enough. Help is needed this winter with burning brush piles, cutting and burning red cedar, and cutting & treating trees/brush, or any combination there of. This is an excellent opportunity to see a variety of sites, some of which may not be regularly open to the public.

Burning depends upon adequate snow cover. If snowfall is infrequent and short-lived, then work party locations may change at the last minute to insure that priority work gets done, and some dates may get canceled if there is no snow cover or if the snow is too deep, so Call the day before to confirm!

Be sure to wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Sturdy footwear and work gloves are required. Do not wear synthetic fabrics or clothes that you mind getting small burn holes in. Bring drinking water. Chainsaw operators with their own equipment are welcome, but you must have safety chaps and headgear. Brush cutters may be helpful at some sites, but check with the leader. Herbicides will be used on all brush cutting work. TPE has a large supply of saws, loppers and pruners. You should bring your own work gloves.

Work is weather dependent, so be sure to call the leader ahead of time to confirm!!

Some of the sites require a hike across uneven terrain to get to the work site. There could be some heavy lifting, however, there is generally work for anyone at any fitness level.

What will I get out of the experience?
Lots -- exercise, sharing time with like-minded people, learning plants and ecology, learning restoration management techniques, seeing and hearing birds and other wildlife are some of the things you will get from the work party.
