Each May, Project Home coordinates Hammer with a Heart. This one day event provides significant home repairs and yard work for approximately 8-10 homes of low-income families, elderly and disabled homeowners who live in Dane County. They must meet income guidelines to qualify.

Approximately 300 skilled and community volunteers - individuals and groups - spend a day repairing and beautifying selected homes using volunteer labor and mostly donated building materials and labor. Food, drink and t-shirts are provided to all volunteers also mostly donated by area businesses. Typically, each house has between 15-30 volunteers depending on the size of projects. Volunteers work on one house for the day which is led by a skilled crew volunteer.

Over the last seven years, Project Home's Hammer with a Heart event has provided more than $500,000 worth in repairs to the homes of 28 low-income families, elderly and disabled people, and three non-profit residential facilities in Dane County. In 2008, volunteers repaired nine homes and a low-income apartment building on Allied Drive.

Deadline for volunteer registration forms: April 8, 2009.
