Our mission is to relieve suffering and to enhance the lives of animals through humane and educational services to the residents of Etowah County.
Description:
We provide housing and medical attention for homeless animals, pet adoptions, community education, and advocacy for better animal legislation, as well as sponsor the Pet Pals Program, pet adoptions for senior citizens funded by Purina, Paws on Broad/GRITS, Paws Under the Stars, Santa Pet Pictures, and various other events. "Pause for Paws" is a quarterly newsletter we publish and mailout; residents may also submit relevant information to be added.
History:
After Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005, The Humane Society of Etowah County assisted in housing, feeding, and providing medical treatment to several dozen pets from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Since most of the evacuees stayed in hotels which do not allow animals, this act of kindness touched the hearts of these families in ways they will never forget.
