RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) involves active adults age 55 and older in volunteer services. We match a person's interests, talents and skills to a needed service within their own community. This leads to a sense of fulfillment for the volunteer, while helping the community and those they serve.
Description:
RSVP has a two-fold purpose: (1) helping older adults lead a high quality of life; & (2) making sure that they are making a measurable contribution to the community. We like to think RSVP was created to keep our senior population engaged in the community & to let them know they are still very important & play a vital part in society. Providing volunteer assignments in the community is how we do that. Significant community volunteer assignments help seniors enjoy 'high quality lives' while they are still active & have a desire to give of themselves.
History:
RSVP is a federal program that began in 1969 as an amendment to the Older Americans Act. RSVP has been in Etowah County for over 30 years and we now have close to 450 volunteers on roll and 66 volunteer stations that have agreed to open their doors for senior volunteers.
