The Bridgeport Public Education Fund commits itself to high quality public education for all children by responding to the need for increased community involvement in and support for public education.
Description:
The MAACS program is a college-bound mentoring program that pairs students from area universities and colleges with high school students at Bassick, Central, and Harding High Schools. Students and mentors meet weekly at the schools. The goals of MAACS is to assist high school students in applying to, attending, and completing college. Mentors are trained to help students with goal setting, college and career exploration, SAT preparation, the college application process, and the college financial aid process.
History:
Originally chartered in 1983 as an independent Advise Fund of the Bridgeport Area Foundation, the Fund became an independent, tax-exempt, non-profit organization in 1993. Other work of the BPEF includes Community Outreach, Charter Oak Scholarships, Grants for Bridgeport Teachers, Prevention Grants, and First Day.
