Basic Literacy Tutor
Literacy Volunteers of Southeastern Fairfield County (LVSFC) teaches native born American to read and write English. Many in Fairfield County can only sign their names, and that is the extent of their reading and writing capabilities. Our aim is to help people increase their job skills and gain opportunities to get a better paying position. It is simple to become a Basic Literacy Tutor. PEOPLE INTERESTED SHOULD ATTEND A VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION SESSION TO LEARN WHAT IS REQUIRED OF A TUTOR. The next Orientations will be in the morning on the following dates: Wednesday, June 18, Westport Library, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM; Thursday, Stratford Library, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM; Wednesday, July 16, Trumbull Library, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM; Thursday, July 17, Fairfield Main Library, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. BASIC LITERACY TRAINING COURSE: Basic Literacy Training will be on Thursday mornings, July 24, 31, Aug. 7, 14, Sept. 18 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Fairfield Main Library. Attendance is required at all classes to be certified. Tutors need to be high school graduates. Please call 1-800-345-7323 to register or for more information.
