English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) assist people in learning to speak English as their second language. The training takes place over a four week period with one follow up session. After the training a tutor is assigned a group of four students at a mutually convenient time for everyone. There is wait list of students in need of tutors! THE TRAINING IS FREE; HOWEVER, THERE IS A $30 REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT FEE FOR THE MATERIALS. THE DEPOSIT WILL BE REFUNDED AT THE END OF THE COURSE. WE DO REQUEST THAT YOU ATTEND A VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION SESSION TO LEARN WHAT IS REQUIRED OF A TUTOR. Orientations will be held in the mornings on the following dates: Wednesday, June 18, Westport Library, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM; Thursday, June 19, Stratford Library, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM; Wednesday, July 16, Trumbull Library, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM; Thursday, July 17, Fairfield Main Library, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. ESOL training will be Wednesdays, Aug. 6, 13, 20, 27, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Literacy Vollunteers Bridgeport office, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Please call 1-800-345-7323 to register. You must attend all sessions to be a certified tutor. To be an ESOL tutor you do not need to speak a foreign language; English is the only requirement.
