Give. Advocate. Volunteer.
Welcome to our www.VolunteerMaine.org, our free, statewide, online Volunteer Center. In addition to supporting this collaborative as a founding member of the VolunteerMaine Parnership, United Way of Eastern Maine continues to be a leader in the community, from building partnerships to inspiring positive change.
Our mission is to improve the lives of people in Eastern Maine by mobilizing the caring power of people and communities. We bring together human, financial and strategic resources to strengthen children and families, support seniors, and meet people's basic needs and promote self-sufficiency for all individuals.
United Way of Eastern Maine invests in community programs operated by partner agencies in Hancock, Penobscot, Pisacataquis, Washington and Waldo counties. To see a list of programs funded by United Way visit our website at www.unitedwayem.org.
We are also working to advance the common good by ensuring more community members benefit from our partnerships. We are focused on improving education, income, and health-- the building blocks of a good life. Some initiatives include:
2-1-1 Maine, a free, easy to remember, confidential telephone number connecting callers to health and social services, government assistance and local community resources. Also available online at www.211maine.org.
Born Learning-School Readiness Initiative: a strategic, multi-year initiative that will measurably improve school readiness. Many of Maine's children kindergartenrs are behind-- by as much as two years! Children are born ready to learn and everyday moments matter. Our focus is long-term, systemic change through awareness, education, and action.
Senior Initiatives: The UWEM Supporting Seniors Community Impact Council is currently involved with two strategies in support of a UWEM initiative to ensure that seniors in Eastern Maine live as independently as possible: Senior Falls Preventions and Senior Health Transportation.
