Bangor Land Trust’s Mission is to protect in perpetuity for public benefit significant lands and waters and their natural, agricultural, scenic, and traditional values and characteristics; promote general and scientific understanding of the region’s natural resources and the need for their preservation; collaborate with organizations having related missions.

Description:
The Bangor Land Trust is a local non profit organization whose mission is to protect public lands, promote environmental education, and collaborate with similar organizations. In addition to our education programs, BLT hosts many free community events including nature walks, photography workshops, and stargazing.

History:
The BLT founding board first met in August 2001 and was recognized as a non profit in October of 2001. The first annual meeting was held in October 2002 and the annual meetings have been held in October every year since then. In December 2002 BLT received its IRS tax-exempt status. Bangor Land Trust received their first land gift, a one-third interest in 10.9 acres, from the Columbia Street Baptist Church in May 2003. In August 2004 BLT accepted the Land Trust Alliance's "Standards and Practices." Bangor Land Trust hired their first staff member in October 2005 and their second staff member in December 2006. They have accepted land gifts of 13.1 acres (December 2004), 205.51 acres (December 2005), and signed conservation easements for 11.18 acres (March 2006). The Bangor Land Trust has collaborated with Keep Bangor Beautiful on the Bangor Trails Project since January 2006. The first BLT newsletter was published in January 2006.
