Youth Promise
[ View Opportunities ]
Last updated on September 15, 2008

The mission of Youth Promise is to develop and support the continual growth of the well being of our youth and families through education and outreach.

The vision of Youth Promise is to create a safe and healthy community.

Description:
Through several different programs that utilize mentoring, community service and decision making skill development, Youth Promise aims to increase positive influence in a child's life and arm them with the tools they will need to succeed in the future. We achieve these goals with support from local communities, local businesses and from dedicated volunteers.

There are three Mid-Coast court districts: Knox, Lincoln and West Bath. Youth Promise provides a tool for these court districts (along with school districts and JCCO's) to help young, low level offending youth. These youth stand to benefit most from education and community involvement.

Our organization also helps these youth who are no longer in traditional school find ways into alternative education, such as night school or GED programs. This is a valuable asset to the youth's future.

History:
Youth Promise was organized in 1994 by Juvenile Court Judge Michael Westcott to develop resources for Lincoln County youth coming into the juvenile justice system. It was originally named the Lincoln County Juvenile Task Force but was renamed in 2000 to reflect a more positive outcome.

In 2003, Youth Promise started serving Knox County youth with our programs: MACS (Mentor Assisted Community Service), MACS-Says (Mentor Assisted Community Service-School Alternative to School Suspension) and Jump Start.

In 2007 Youth Promise started the process of joining our programs with those from Eastern Cumberland and bringing them into Sagadahoc County. Youth Promise will be collaborating with Law Enforcement agencies, Court officials, Juvenile Probation officers, school personnel and family members in these counties to spread the available programs through out the four county regions.
