The American Diabetes Association is committed to finding a cure, advocating for those with diabetes, and providing the most up to date information on diabetes to both the general public and medical professionals. Our mission is to prevent, cure, and to improve the lives of all affected by diabetes. We hope you will join us as we continue to fight the battle against diabetes.
Description:
As the nation’s leading voluntary health organization supporting diabetes research, information and advocacy, the American Diabetes Association needs public support to fight the disease, which is the fifth-deadliest disease in the United States. Support in the form of both donations and contributions of volunteers’ time and talent enables the Association to fight diabetes on three fronts: research, education, and advocacy. Since 1987 the death rate due to diabetes has increased by 45 percent, while the death rates due to heart disease, stroke, and cancer have declined. Tour de Cure is a series of cycling events held in more than 80 cities nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. Tour de Cure events take place in some of the most scenic areas of the country and offer the opportunity for camaraderie with fellow riders as well as a moveable feast for the eyes. Since Tour de Cure’s beginning in 1991, thousands of individual riders and teams have participated to support the Association's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Now you can make a difference in the lives of the 20.8 million Americans suffering from diabetes by joining thousands of cyclists around the nation who are riding in Tour de Cure. These events are conducted not simply to raise funds, but to empower community participants in the fight against diabetes. Every dollar raised is a strike against diabetes. Every dollar brings hope to the community: hope for education to prevent diabetes and detect diabetes early; hope for patient services to diminish suffering from diabetes; hope for diabetes research to find a cure.
