We provide quality, compassionate care at home.
Description:
BAVN and HOEM provide nurses, home health aides, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, medical social workers and volunteers and bereavement support for our hospice patients and families. Each year we help approximately 100 Bangor Area Homeless Shelter residents through our free nursing program, located at the shelter. In addition, we annually provide approximately 100 children and adults with grief support services through our Pathfinders: Support for grieving children program.
History:
The Bangor Health Committee was started in 1913 to improve the health of the City of Bangor. The committee hired their first nurse, Miss Edith Bicknell, from Eastern Maine General Hospital. Miss Bicknell made her first patient visit on July 28, 1913. In 1997,now Bangor Area Visiting Nurses (BAVN), rejoined Eastern Maine Healthcare as an affiliate. In 1999, Hospice of Eastern Maine merged with Bangor Area Visiting Nurses to provide a full complement of compassionate home care services at all stages of life. Patient-centered care has been the hallmark of Bangor Area Visiting Nurses services to the homebound since 1913. Each year we serve nearly 1,000 home health and hospice patients, regardless of ability to pay (based on agency funds available).
