Isaiah House exists to provide effective and compassionate services to indivduals in need.
Description:
Isaiah House is a non-profit agency for children and families in Essex County, New Jersey, Isaiah House is community based and supported. Since 1988, we have been the only shelter in East Orange that provides temporary lodging, food, social, and financial services, as well as comfort and hope, for over 100 families a year.
History:
1995 the state of New Jersey had an infant mortality rate of 8 percent. At 15.1 percent, 15.9 percent and 11.2 percent respectively, East Orange, Newark and Orange counties infant mortality rates were significantly higher. Isaiah House was formed in response to these high rates and the need to reduce them and improve pregnancy outcomes. As a non-profit agency for children and families in Essex County, New Jersey, Isaiah House is community based and supported. We are the result of a 1984 alliance between the Community Service Council of the Oranges and Maplewood (a division of United Way of Essex and West Hudson), the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills, and the Concerned Clergy of East Orange. Since 1988, we have been the only shelter in East Orange that provides temporary lodging, food, social, and financial services, as well as comfort and hope, for over 100 families a year.
