The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to provide "one-to-one" services under the supervision of professional staff to "fatherless" or "single parent" children in order to help them make a satisfactory adjustment to community life and become productive citizens instead of burdens on society.

Description:
Provides much needed guidance and friendship to boys without fathers and girls from single parent homes. Also provides therapeutic outings, counseling and advocacy for children and parents. Men and women over age twenty-one are encouraged to apply to become "Bigs" and be matched with a child. Volunteers are asked to spend at least a couple of hours weekly with the child, including him/her in some of your own activities. Minimum match period is one year.

History:
Founded in 1953 by Florence attorney Eugene Zeigler. Since 1953, thousands of children from single parent and broken homes have received the help of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Many recipients of the services have come back to us and become volunteers to other children.
