 The Environmental Discovery at Lynches River County Park is in need of volunteers to serve in several capacities. Some examples of types of volunteer jobs are listed below. Please note that this list is not all-inclusive. If you are interested in another area, please contact the EDC Supervisor. Visitor Services – Visitor Services volunteers greet visitors and provide them with information about the Environmental Discovery Center and the types of activities available. They have a good working knowledge of all aspects of the EDC and are there to answer questions and assist visitors. Horticulture – Horticulture volunteers work primarily on the Southern Forest Project which is designed to restore a more natural setting to the park through the use of native plants. Assistance is needed in locating areas that are being developed or altered, digging and relocating specimens, creating simple fencing, as well as weeding, watering, deadheading, and trimming. Volunteers are also need to create and maintain a butterfly garden consisting of native plants as well as general landscape needs. Education Programming - Volunteers in Education Programming are trained to assist EDC staff with educational programming for school aged children, families, and groups. Land and Water Guides – Water guides lead paddles from the Canoe Launch to the Highway 52 boat landing emphasizing beginning paddling skills, river history, and flora and fauna. Trail guides lead nature walks that highlight relevant history such as the Stagecoach Road and points of interest such as identified plant species, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and mammals.

From Florence: Take US 52 south for 12 miles and take the first right past the Lynches River Bridge onto Old Number 4. Go 2 miles and turn right onto County Park Road. After entering the park, turn left into the parking lot at the Community Building. The Environmental Discovery Center is located behing the community building, near the public restroom facility. |
