The mission of Operation Clean Sweep Anti-Litter Campaign is to improve the quality of life in New Bedford through Organized Cleanups, Education and Advocacy for Enforcement of city ordinances. Our mission is to raise awareness and educate people about the far reaching negative effects of litter and trash on our environment. Our vision is for a clean and healthy environment for the community now and for generations to come.
Description:
Operation Clean Sweep is an all volunteer anti-litter campaign in New Bedford, MA. We promote litter prevention stewardship within our community and seek to invoke ownership within the neighborhood so that folks may take pride in the place where they live and raise their families. Operation Clean Sweep has organized cleanups on the 3rd Saturday of each month, April through September. This is a collaborative effort that partners with individuals, volunteer organizations, neighborhood associations, businesses, schools and city officials in an effort to bring the community together for a common goal. We ask neighbors and businesses to come out once an month and clean up their "little part of the world". We are looking for those who want to take a stand against litter. We have 3 levels of support; volunteer, adopter, supporter.
History:
Operation Clean Sweep began in 2006. Since that year, volunteers have cleaned up over 28 Tons of trash from New Bedford neighborhoods. We organize 6 monthly cleanups which are city wide, one in each ward. Operation Clean Sweep is supported by Mayor Lang and we are working in conjunction with city officials to address litter and improper disposal of trash. We have a long term commitment to cleanup, raise awareness and educate with the hope of changing behaviors.
