The Samaritans' mission is to be available for those who are lonely and depressed or in danger of taking their life. Samaritans listen without judgment or prejudice,and assure callers confidentiality and anonymity.

Description:
Our hot lines are available to all callers, fifteen hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to our hot lines, we offer a self-help support group for families and friends of those who have completed suicide. Samaritans provide outreach education to school groups and organizations to present suicide awareness and prevention information. We partner with Corrigan Crisis Center, and have partnerships also with colleges in the surrounding area, providing internship opportunities to Human Services students. We serve toll-free thirteen communities around New Bedford and Fall River. Massachusetts residents can call toll free at 1-866-508-4357 (HELP). We also provide friendly calls to the elderly. Anyone interested in receiving a friendly weekly call can contact the agency at 508-673-5160. We also provide an outreach to teens who are looking for community service. History:
Samaritans is currently in the process in apllying for certification with CONTACT, and have been a long standing member with The Amercian Association of Suicidology.The agency networks with National TALK 1-800-293-8255. It is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit agency established in 1984 and registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a suicide prevention hot line. We are primarily funded by the United Ways of New Bedford and Fall River.
