The New Haven Economic Security Coalition (NHESC) is coalition of the Mayor's Office of the New Haven, the IRS, banks, community-based organizations and many generous volunteers, that provides free tax preparation, credit reports, bank accounts, financial literacy courses and other asset-building services to increase the financial security of low-income families in the New Haven area.

Description:
The New Haven Economic Security Coalition (NHESC) is a coalition of the Office of the Mayor of the City of New Haven, the Internal Revenue Service, Fleet Bank, Yale Law School, Quinnipiac Law School, Community Action Agency of New Haven, Student Health OUTreach, JUNTA for Progressive Action, Community Builders, the Spanish American Merchants Association, with support from the City of New Haven, Empower New Haven, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

History:
NHESC was formed in 2002 to provide free tax preparation. Since then, its activities have grown to include banking services, credit reports, financial literacy courses, and access to other asset-building services such as Individual Development Accounts. An unprecedented collaboration between local and state public agencies, commercial banks, and local community organizations, NHESC has serviced hundreds of families in the New Haven area.
