Open Door Recovery Center
Last updated on March 20, 2008

"Open Door is committed to the health and well being of the community. Its mission is to provide the highest quality, outpatient rehabilitation and treatment services for substance abusers, their families and significant others at the lowest possible cost. The center provides care regardless of the clients' ability to pay.
The center's philosophy regards alcoholism as a primary disease. Treatment follows the medical model using the teachings of AA and Al-anon as strong supporting agents, with recourse to other successful methodologies. These approaches apply to the treatment of other drug dependencies."

Description:
Open Door has a contract with Maine Coast Memorial Hospital that allows us to provide outpatient detox services at Open Door and assist with inpatient detox at MCMH. We offer Intensive Outpatient Treatment, Outpatient Treatment for Adults and Adolescents, In School Prevention Education throughout Hancock County, Early Recovery Group, Family Group, and have a contract with the county for the Hancock County
Deferred Sentencing Project. The Open Door Staff offers quality treatment to all who seek help regardless their situation. The staff approaches each client with compassion, respect and care. We believe that addiction is a disease that affects not only the life of the addict, but the lives of those who love and care about the addict. We love to see individuals and families heal, grow and reunite.

History:
Open Door was founded in 1984 by William Hills. Open Door operated out of the basement of St. Joseph's Church in Ellsworth for the first 15 years of service. Six years ago Bill facilitated the plans and building of the current building. Sadly Bill passed away 6 years ago. We work diligently to carry on the original mission and philosophy of Open Door Recovery Center.
