Senior WOW Committee Volunteers

Volunteers are being recruited to 1) serve on a Seniors Program Advisory Board; 2) serve on active volunteer committees; and 3) to help out with specific events. The Seniors Program Advisory Board will be responsible for offering directional advice for the development of the Senior Center Without Walls to the Seniors Program Coordinator. The volunteer committees will address the nine identified focus areas and work to develop programs, services, and community partnerships to meet the needs of Scarborough seniors. These areas are Activities, Communication, Health and Wellness, Transportation, Funding, Facilities, Outreach, Intergenerational, and Education.

As a volunteer working with Scarborough Community Services Senior WOW Programs, you will be working with a diverse group of people to fulfill a wide range of needs for seniors in the Scarborough community. It is important that we all agree to adhere by a set of guidelines to be able to create a safe volunteer working space, and a quality program for area seniors.
As a Scarborough Community Services Senior WOW Programs Volunteer,

It is your right:

To feel respected and listened to

To be treated as an equal, rather than “free help”

To receive orientation, training, and support in order to be able to fulfill your volunteer duties
To be provided with an appropriate and satisfying work assignment and be able to change work assignments if you request it

To be recognized for your work and efforts
To have open communication with Community Services, and kept up to date about relevant information

To be comfortable saying “no”






It is your responsibility:

To treat everyone you work with, including participants, staff, and fellow volunteers, with patience and respect

To maintain confidentiality while working with any personal information regarding participants, staff, or fellow volunteers

To represent the Senior WOW Programs, Community Services, and the Town of Scarborough with dignity and support the goals of the program

To keep in open communication with Community Services

To make Community Services aware of any support or assistance you need

To voice concerns with Community Services

To not promote rumors or negativity

To alert Community Services when you will not be able to fulfill an assignment for any reason, so that Community Services may find an appropriate replacement

To participate in a background check to protect the safety of the people we serve
