JDRFI's mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its' complications through the support of research.
Description:
The way we support research is through fundraising. JDRF has a 'Walk to Cure Diabetes' in Rochester and the Southern Tier in May. We have a 'Ride to Cure Diabetes' program throughout the spring and summer and a 'Hope for a Cure Gala' in November. We also have a support program for families dealing with juvenile diabetes. We have a 'Bag of Hope' program for newly diagnosed families, a support group that meets throughout the year and a newsletter. Our website provides valuable information for the newly diagnosed as well as those dealing with juvenile diabetes on a daily basis.
History:
Founded by parents of children with juvenile diabetes, also known as type 1 diabetes, JDRF has consistently focused on a single goal-accelerating research progress to cure diabetes and its complications. The unwavering dedication of our volunteers and staff has led us to spend more money to fund diabetes research than any other charitable organization-more than $900 million since our founding in 1970, which includes more than $85 million in FY 2004. JDRF is rated one of the most cost effective charities in the United States because more than 80% of our expenditures directly support our mission-to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. Embedded in our mission are our three cure goals: • Restoring normal blood sugar levels. • Preventing and reversing complications. • Preventing type 1 diabetes
