The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's (NCMEC) mission is to help prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation; help find missing children; and assist victims of abduction and sexual exploitation, their families, and the professionals who serve them.

Description:
The National Center provides prevention education classes for parents, children, law enforcement and other professionals. There are two case managers on hand that work with local families and out of state families of missing children. In addition, NCMEC hosts several fundraising events throughout the year. The Ride for Missing Children, Motorcycles for the Missing and our Annual Dinner Auction. We also have a state of the art training facility for law enforcement. Currently our focus is targeted to Internet Safety with the use of our NetSmartz safety education programming.


History:
After the tragic abduction and murder of Adam Walsh in 1981, local business and community leaders opened the Adam Walsh Resource Center in Rochester, NY in 1984. The Rochester Branch remains one of only eight offices in the United States. In 1990, the Adam Walsh Resource Center merged with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and became the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children/NY Branch.
