Catholic Charities of Livingston County provides direct assistance, advocates for social and economic justice, and encourages self-sufficiency through education & support.
Description:
Located in the Village of Mt. Morris, the agency provides a range of services including emergency assistance with resources for food, clothing, housing and furniture; help with utility payments; emergency gas money; needed prescriptions for those without health insurance.
We also offer specific programs such as counseling and support for single mothers and pregnant and parenting teens; a first work site job training and support program for women transitioning off public assistance; a housing support program for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless; a youth mentoring program matching caring adults with children in need of a positive adult role model; a Wheels to Work program for eligible participants to receive a car after securing employment or help with car repairs; a volunteer-driven program to help the elderly remain living at home; the county's only outreach program to the Hispanic and Latino community.
The vast majority of people served are single mothers with one or more dependent children. Nearly everyone is living at or below the federal poverty level.
History:
Catholic Charities of Livingston County (CCLC) began as a grass root organization of rural outreach in 1992. Incorporated as a non-profit, multi-service agency in 1995, the agency annually serves more than 3,300 men, women and children living in poverty. The agency operates for the benefit of all in need of assistance without discrimination. All services are non-sectarian and provided free of charge.
