MISSION: The Legal Aid Society of Rochester is a not-for-profit organization that provides direct civil legal services, including lay advocacy and related human services, to adults and children. We ensure that those who seek justice have an opportunity to receive a fair and full hearing. We obtain legal solutions that have a beneficial impact on our clients and the community.
VISION: The Legal Aid Society of Rochester believes in the guarantees of due process and equal protection as promised in our State and Federal constitutions.
To ensure that these rights have real meaning, we will strive to provide a highly qualified and zealous advocate to anyone who cannot otherwise obtain representation in civil legal matters.
We will create an environment in our community that values access to legal counsel, so every person is treated with dignity, equality and fairness.

Description:
LAS provides direct legal representation to poor persons and persons of modest means who reside in Monroe County, and in some programs, a surrounding county. LAS is also assigned counsel to children in Monroe County Family Court.
There are two divisions, the Civil Division and the Law Guardian Division. The Civil Division provides direct civil legal representation and counseling in four general areas of the law: Family Law, Housing, Immigration and Youth Advocacy. The Law Guardian Division provides legal representation to children in Monroe County Family Court in cases of juvenile delinquency, PINS, abuse, neglect, custody and visitation.

History:
The Legal Aid Society of Rochester, NY Inc. (LAS) traces its origin to Susan B. Anthony and the Women's Educational and Industrial Union of the late 19th century. It was formerly incorporated in 1921 and has been providing high quality legal services to low and moderate income residents of the Monroe County and the surrounding area since its incorporation.

Overall Experience    Experience rating
Wide variety of experiences, wonderful people.

I was able to gain experience in the legal field and more finely tune my career interests. The people were absolutely wonderful and the environment friendly and cheery. I was given responsibility and hands on practice. Thank you LASROC!
